Ernie Yake might be in his redshirt freshman year at Gonzaga, but that doesn't mean that the infielder is not stepping up and making an impact for the Bulldogs. So far, Yake has started 19 of his 19 game appearances and maintained a fielding percentage of .978, recording only one error on the season. Yake also shares the field with a handful of former Bells, Gunner Shubert (2016), Jake Vieth (2016), Austin Pinorini (2017), and Brendan McClary (2017).
Behind the plate, Yake is also continuing to have a hot bat. Currently batting at .291, he has recorded 11 RBIs and four doubles over his 25 hits for Gonzaga. Ernie ended the 2017 WCL season at a similar .288 and recorded 21 RBIs, 10 doubles, and one home run in his 50 game appearances, all All-Star worthy numbers. Yake is a hometown Bell, attending the local Squalicum High School just 10 minutes away from Joe Martin Field. The team and community are excited to have him return for the 2018 season.
