2017 WCL All-Star Update: Holden Powell

03/09/2018 9:10 AM
In Powell's five-game appearances this season, he has already proved to be a strong closing presence on the mound for UCLA. Now taking the relief role with the Bruins, he has recorded two saves on the season to secure big wins for his team, both of these saves coming against Baylor University on February 23rd and 25th. Currently, Powell is sitting at an ERA of 3.86 over his 4.2 innings pitched with five strikeouts to his name.
Last season with the Bells, Powell proved that even if he had just graduated High School, he still could compete with the older players and make his impact felt. Over his 10 appearances and 10 starts for the Bells, he slung a team-high 46.1 innings, recording an ERA of 3.69, and 43 strikeouts. This was only two strikeouts behind team leader and current UCLA teammate, Zach Pettway. Powell and the rest of the Bruins are on track to have a very successful 2018 season.
