Bells Fall to Victoria

The Bellingham Bells were defeated by the Victoria HarbourCats 10-4 Tuesday evening at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria.

The HarbourCats move 1.5 games in front of Bellingham entering the final 4 games of the season.

Bellingham will take on Victoria for the final time this season tomorrow before finishing the year against the Wenatchee AppleSox. 

The HarbourCats scored three runs in the fourth and seventh innings and two runs in the third and sixth innings to defeat Bellingham.

The Bells opened the scoring in the third inning with an RBI single from Austin Shenton, for Shenton's 42nd RBI of the season. Bellingham led 1-0 after one and a half.

Bellingham trailed 5-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning. Max Flower and Ryan Mendoza both singled and came around to score on a Kody Matthews two RBI double. Bellingham cut their defecit to 5-3 after five and a half innings.

Rogelio Reyes was tagged with the loss for Bellingham, as the starter for the Bells tossed four innings allowing five runs, four of which were earned while striking out four. Reyes dropped to 1-5 on the season.

Spencer Hereford and Arman Sabouri worked the final four innings for the Bellingham. Hereford pitched two and a third innings allowing four earned runs and five overall to come home and score, while Sabouri dealt an inning and two thirds, not allowing a run and striking out two.

Chase illig capped the scoring for Bellingham in the 8th inning, launching his 15th homerun of the season, a solo shot, to bring Bellingham within six runs at 10-4. Bellingham did not get closer on the evening, falling 10-4.

Illig's homerun was his 51st RBI of the season, tying him for the WCL single season record.

Bellingham finishes their three game series against Victoria tomorrow evening at 6:35.
