Bells Take Series in Port Angeles
The Bellingham Bells defeated the Port Angeles Lefties 4-2 at Civic Field in Port Angeles Sunday evening.
The Bells improved to 18-12 overall and 2-1 in the second half with the win, while the Lefties fell to 13-22 and 3-5 in the second half following the defeat.
The Bells trailed 1-0 heading to the top of the sixth inning. In the frame Bellingham would load the bases, and then score two runs, on consecutive RBI sacrifice flies for Austin Shenton and Chase Illig. Bellingham carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom half of the sixth.
Zach Pettway earned the start for Bellingham, tossing five innings and allowing just one run while striking out four. The UCLA Bruin did not factor in the decision.
Following a Jake Portaro homerun to tie the game at 2, the local players took over for Bellinhgam, with Squalicum HS graduate Ernie Yake scoring on a Austin Shenton, a Bellingham HS graduate, RBI single in the eighth inning, and Yake driving in Shane Hanon on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
Trevor DeLaite tossed two innings out of the bullpen for Bellingham, allowing one run. Josh Zavisubin, a Sehome HS graduate, earned the win for Bellingham striking out two batters in a scoreless eighth inning, while Luke Maniel earned his third save of the summer, striking out the side in the ninth to seal the Bells' 18th win.
Bellingham continues their nine game roadtrip in Bend, Oregon on Monday night against the Bend Elks. First pitch set for 6:35.
