Bells End 1st Half On Sweet Note

07/06/2017 4:23 AM

The Bellingham Bells defeated the Walla Walla Sweets 6-1 on Wednesday evening at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla.

The win improved Bellingham's record to 16-11 in the first half, good for a second place finish in the northern division behind the 1st half champion Kelowna Falcons. The standings and records will be reset for the second half of play, which Bellingham opens in Port Angeles, against the Lefties.
Bellingham scored the first six runs of the game, an RBI double from Chase Illig in the first, a two RBI single from Max Flower in the fifth and a two RBI single from Dean Lawson in the sixth inning, staked the Bells a 6-0 lead after six innings.
That would be all the run support the Bellingham pitching staff would need. Starter Jimmy Boyce improved to 3-1 on the season, earning the win by tossing five innings of scoreless baseball, striking out four.
Chandler Greenfield, Tanner West, Arman Sabouri and Josh Zavisubin combined to allow just one run over the final four frames, each hurler tossing a single inning, with the Bellingham native, Zavisubin, striking out the side in the ninth inning to secure the Bells' 16th win of the season.
Bellingham retakes the field to begin the second half of the West Coast League season in Port Angeles Friday night.
