Bells Comeback Falls Short
The Bellingham Bells fell 16-14 to the Walla Walla Sweets on the Fourth of July.
The game, which started at 10:05 am just nine hours after the Bells win in 16 innings over Walla Walla ended, featured 33 hits, and 30 runs combined between the two clubs, including five in the top of the ninth for Bellingham.
Bellingham trailed 9-2 heading to the top of the fifth, where the Bells would cross four runs in the inning, three on a dinger off the bat of Max Flower. The Bells would cross three more in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at nine after five and a half.
The Sweets would then score seven unanswered runs to take a 16-9 lead going to the ninth. Bellingham crossed five runs in the ninth inning, but the comeback fell just short when Chase Illig lined out to end the game.
Austin Shenton went 4 for 5 for Bellingham, scoring four runs and picking up three RBIs, while Max Flower went 3 for 4 with two walks, and four RBIs.
The Bells are back in action tomorrow night when the finish up the three game series against the Sweets at 7:05.
