The Bellingham Bells have announced the addition of two pitchers from the top ranked team in the nation, the Oregon State Beavers. Beaver pitchers Tristan Garnett and Tommy Paul will join the Bellingham Bells for the upcoming 2017 season.
“We are thrilled to be developing a new relationship with Oregon State,” Bells’ general manager Stephanie Morrell said. “OSU is a tremendously strong program, and the talent they have on their 2017 roster is evident from the incredibly successful season they have had. We expect both Tristan and Tommy to be important pieces of our pitching staff this summer as we know they are talented players who know how to compete.”
Paul is in his sophomore season with the Beavers, after having thrown 11 and a third innings in eight appearances as a freshman, recording a 3.97 ERA and a 1-0 record in 2016. This season, Paul has helped the Beavers to a sparkling 45-4 record making two appearances and holding a 4.50 ERA. Prior to his time in Corvallis, Paul was an All-State performer at Sherwood High School. The Sherwood, Oregon native went 7-2 with a 1.95 ERA on the mound as a senior, fanning 53 batters in 43 innings. The 6 foot 6-inch right-hander also batted .326 and drove in 18 runs at the plate with the Bowmen.
Garnett is redshirting this season for Oregon State. Before joining the Beavers, Garnett was a top rated prep pitcher at Westview High School. The Portland native was ranked as the 12th best player in the state of Oregon and the second best left handed pitcher in the state by Perfect Game USA, while Northwest Baseball tabbed Garnett as the 11th best prospect in the state following his senior season that saw Westview be ranked fourth in the state by MaxPreps, and reach the state semifinals.
Garnett and Paul join a loaded pitching staff for Bellingham that features players from 8 Pac-12 schools, including Oregon, Arizona State, Washington and Stanford.
Paul, Garnett and the 2017 Bells begin the 2017 campaign at Joe Martin Field, next Friday, June 2nd against the Gresham GreyWolves. Tickets are available on BellinghamBells.com
