Bells Ground Falcons

08/01/2016 9:04 PM

The Bells jumped out to an early lead Monday night and it carried them to a 5-3 victory over the Kelowna Falcons.

The Bells got things started early on tonight with a 3 run 1st inning. Andru Cardenas started things with a walk and also stole second, he took third on the catcher’s poor throw into the outfield on said steal attempt. Shane Hanon then bounced one up the middle for a RBI single to score Cardenas. Chase Strumpf then doubled down the left field line to give the Bells runners at second and third.  David Banuelos then walked to load the bases, and another walk to Jake Vieth allowed Hanon to score. Danny Casals then hit a sac fly to right to score Strumpf and the Bells had the lead at 3-0 headed to the 2nd inning of play.

The Falcons picked up a run of their own in the 3rd. A leadoff single from Vaughn Shapenand a walk to Geroge McCaulley gave Kelowna runners on first and second and a sac bunt from Lane Lacrone moved them to second and third. Chandler Robertson then grounded out to second to drive in Shapen and make the score 3-1 Bells.

The Bells struck right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning on a long solo bomb to right center off of the bat of Jake Vieth.

Kevin Morgan led things off with a bunt single, Geoff McCaulley hit a single to right and Lane Lacrone walked to load the bases for the Falcons with one out. Chandler Robertson then stepped up and delivered a 2 RBI single up the middle to make the score 4-3 Bells going into the bottom of the 7th.

The Bells played a bit of add on with a run of their own in the bottom of the 7th. A leadoff double from Shane Hanon got things started for the Bells, and a stolen base moved him to third. Two batters later Jake Vieth came through once again with a single to right to score Hanon and bring the score to 5-3 Bells and that would be all the runs the Bells would need on the night.

The Bells got a great start tonight out of Jon Olsen, the UCLA product went 6 full innings while only allowing one earned run on two hits and striking out four Kelowna batters, and he picked up the win in the process. The Bells also got a nice relief performance from their one two punch of Jared Horn and David Stealy. Horn got the last out of the 7th and threw a scoreless 8th to earn the hold, and Hellinger came in and slammed the door in the 9th for his tenth save of the year.

The Bells take the field again tomorrow Tuesday July 25th for the final two dollar Tuesday of the year and the second game of a three game series against the Kelowna Falcons at 7:05.  Pre-game coverage starts at 6:35 on mixlr.com/bellinghambells with Tom Prizeman.
