The Bells were unable to muster much offense Sunday afternoon, as they fell 4-1 to the Wenatchee AppleSox.
The Applesox struck the first blow Sunday afternoon, putting up a 3 spot in the top of the 2nd. A double and a walk allowed Wenatchee to put runners on 1st and 2nd. After a wild pitch allowed both runners to advance, a RBI ground out off of the bat of Taylor Borchers scored one. Dalton Harum then stepped up and deposited a two run home run over the left field fence to give Wenatchee the early lead at 3-0.
The Bells got on the board in the 6th with a run of their own. Three straight singles from Austin Shenton, Matt Ruff, and Justin Polzin loaded the bases for the Bells. Shenton was then able to score on a wild pitch from Wenatchee pitcher Ross Clevenger to make the score 3-1 Wenatchee.
Wenatchee tacked on one more run in the top of the 9th. A one out single from Jordan Rathbone, and a walk to Sheldon Liikala the AppleSox had runners on 1st and 2nd. Michael Toglia then found a hole on the right side of the infield for his fourth hit on the day, and a RBI as he drove in Rathbone from second to make the score 4-1 AppleSox.
The Bells were able to load the bases with two outs in the ninth, bringing the winning run to the plate, but were unable to cash in.
Austin Shenton was a bright spot for the Bells today. The Bellingham High School graduate was 3-4 with a walk and a run and was the only Bell with multiple hits on the afternoon. Josh Zavisubin and Jared Horn also had a couple of strong innings in relief. Zavisubin, a graduate of Sehome high tossed 2.2 innings of shutout ball while only allowing one hit, Horn pitched one scoreless inning of his own.
