The Bellingham Bells (17-15) fell to the Yakima Valley Pippins (21-14) 4-1 Wednesday night at Yakima County Stadium.
Yakima scored four runs in the fifth inning to overcome a Bellingham 1-0. They never surrendered the lead again.
Bellingham opened the scoring in the fifth. Elijah Skipps slapped a single into centerfield and moved to third on a Matt Ruff double. Following a Gunnar Schubert flyout, Justin Polzin lofted a single into left field that drove in Skipps and gave the Bells a 1-0 lead.
The Pippins used four hits and a hit batsman in the fifth inning to cross four runs.
Connor Johnson (2-2) earned his sixth start of the summer, and tossed five and a third innings allowing four runs and fanning two. Bellingham native Josh Zavisubin worked two and two thirds innings while striking out four Pippin batters.
Gavin Velasquez (5-2) earned his fifth win of the summer, pitching eight innings of one run baseball for Yakima Valley.
