Bells Blog: Chiarelli Leads WCL

06/30/2009 10:51 AM

Mike Chiarelli technically led the Oregon State Beavers in 2009 with his .500 batting average. So maybe it’s no surprise that he now finds his name atop the West Coast League leader board after batting .462 (18-of-39) through Bellingham’s first 17 games.

Then again, maybe his one hit in two at-bats for Oregon State this past spring might not be the best indicator as to Chiarelli’s early success during his second with the Bells.

“I give a lot of credit to the guys hitting around me,” Chiarelli said. “Everybody on this team is a hard-nosed competitor and we really just want to win. When those guys go out and have good at-bats it makes it easier on me because I get to see some good pitches.”
