06/17/2009 7:53 PMBend, OR. – After putting up nine runs last night the Bellingham Bells couldn’t manage to cross the plate in their second game against the Bend Elks on Wednesday afternoon losing 5-0.
The Bells fell behind early in the second inning on a Mitch Ludtke error. From there, the Elks continued to tack on a run in the third, two more in the fourth and one in the fifth which proved to be plenty to get past the Bells today.
Elks starting pitcher, Joey Donofrio pitched six scoreless innings giving up only three hits, one each to Chiarelli, Brett and Leighton. The Bells made two late threats to score in both the eighth and ninth innings but came up just short.
The Bells are looking to take the series against Bend at 6:35pm on Thursday as they send Tyrell Poggemeyer (1-0) to the mound for the final game of the series before they travel to Corvallis for the weekend.
