Two More Huskies Signed for 2012
The Bells have signed two more players from the University of Washington to play in Bellingham during the 2012 season. Huskies infielder Andrew Ely and pitcher Keith Zuniga have committed to the Bells. This makes it a trio from UW as they join previously signed pitcher Jacob Coats.
Andrew Ely, a native of Eagle, ID and graduate of Eagle High School, is currently a freshman at the University of Washington. As a senior in high school in 2011, Ely batted .417 with six home runs and 30 RBI leading his team to a 21-5 record and the state championship. "Andrew Ely will fill a valuable role for us as an infielder who can play more than one position and is a tough out at the plate. Andrew had a stellar high school career and now is looking to help the UW as a freshman this spring," says pitching coach Jim Clem.
Keith Zuniga is from Nogales, AZ where he attended Nogales High School and is currently a sophomore at UW. The 6'1" right handed pitcher played his first collegiate season at Pima Community College. During the 2011 season, Zuniga worked 87 innings where he struck out 67 batters and walked 29. He finished the year with a 3.00 ERA and 7-4 record. Clem looks forward to working with Zuniga this summer saying, "Keith is a hard throwing RHP who has a very good breaking ball."
