“We are extremely excited about having Blake join the Bells,” said Eddie Poplawski, the team’s new owner. “Blake came very highly recommended to us by numerous baseball executives. He has a terrific front office track record in minor league baseball and I am grateful that he will now be bringing his energy, talent, creativity, and high-level of professionalism to our ballclub. We are very fortunate to have Blake on our team.”
Buswell began working in baseball in Orem, Utah, with the Orem Owlz (Rookie-level affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels). He worked in Utah for five years and served as the team’s assistant general manager while seeing a 30 percent increase in attendance during his time with the team. While in Reno, Buswell saw the team eclipse the 445,000 mark in attendance for its second straight season.
A graduate of Brigham Young University, Buswell also spent time working in the athletics media relations department at his alma mater as well as working directly with BYU’s baseball operations staff.
“I am thrilled to be working for the Bellingham Bells,” said Buswell. “The Bellingham area is rich in baseball history and I look forward to working with coach (Gary) Hatch and Eddie Poplawski to create a fun and exciting atmosphere at Bells games where families and friends in the community will want to spend their summer nights.”
Buswell’s hiring came after former Bells general manager Justin Stottlemyre announced he would be accepting another position within Brett Sports following the sale of the team in October. Stottlemyre will continue his work with the Bells during a transitional period before moving to Spokane.
“I want to thank Justin for the many contributions he has made to the Bells and for staying on board for a few months to help during the transition of the team’s ownership and new front office staff,” said Poplawski. “Justin not only has an opportunity to advance his career within Brett Sports but, by relocating to Spokane, he and his wife will now be much closer to their extended families. Justin has done great work here in Bellingham and I know that he will continue to do so in his new role.”
The Bells open their 13th season on June 3 at Joe Martin Field against the Kelowna Falcons. Individuals and companies with inquiries about season tickets, corporate sponsorship opportunities, or any other matters related to the ballclub, are encouraged to contact the Bellingham Bells offices at (360) 527-1030, or via e-mail at [email protected]
