Pair of Unearned Runs Cost Bells in 2-1 Loss
07/22/2010 8:32 PMThe Bellingham Bells were 90 feet away from pulling even with the Wenatchee Applesox on Thursday, July 22, before the visiting squad turned a double play to seal the win in Bellingham’s 2-1 loss in West Coast League action.
Wenatchee was the beneficiary of a Bells throwing error in the fourth that would have ended the inning but instead allowed both Applesox runs to score. The two unearned runs ended up being all Wenatchee would need as starter Chase Brewer (UCLA) was tagged with the loss after pitching seven innings and giving up six hits in addition to the unearned runs.
The Bells made two late efforts in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. After scoring their lone run of the contest in the seventh, the Bells left runners in scoring positions in all three of the final innings.
Cody Regis (UCLA) led the way for Bellingham at the plate with two of the team’s six hits. He also scored the Bells’ only run on Travis Anderson’s (Oregon State) seventh inning single to left field.
Bellingham and Wenatchee continue their series on Friday, July 23, as the Bells host Haggen $1 Family Feast Night presented by Praise 106.5 as well as Bark in the Park Night at Joe Martin Field. In addition to the savings fans can enjoy at the concessions stand, the Bells are also extending an invitation to their four-legged K-9 friends. Fans can bring their dog to the park by purchasing a Pooch Pass at the ticket booth. All the proceeds from the Pooch Passes are going directly to the Whatcom Humane Society. For more information or to order tickets in advance, contact the Bells Tickets Office at 527-1035.
