Bells Leave Bases Loaded in 6-5 Loss
07/13/2010 8:55 PMThe Bellingham Bells loaded the bases down one run in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to score, losing the second game of the three game series to the Cowlitz Black Bears 6-5 in West Coast League action.
The Bells scored first when Cody Regis doubled in the home half of the first inning, bringing Frank Desico around to score. Neither team would put runs on the board again until the fifth inning, when the Bears crossed home plate five times.
Bellingham would score two in the fifth and put up two additional runs in the eighth, tying the score at 5-5 on a Brady Locker two-run home run to left field. But Cowlitz regained the lead in the ninth before the Bells attempted rally fell flat.
Scott Griggs made his third start of the season for Bellingham, going 4 2/3 innings in which he allowed all five Cowlitz runs on just two hits while striking out nine. Griggs was relieved by Jim Reed and Mitch Ludke, who was tagged with the loss.
The series concludes Wednesday, July 14 at Joe Martin Field in the final Banner Bank Day Game of the season. First pitch for the series finale is slated for 6:35 p.m.
