Wise Earns Fourth Win, Strikes Out Nine
07/12/2010 8:49 PM The Bellingham Bells returned home after a nine-game road trip in winning fashion by taking down the Cowlitz Black Bears 4-3 in West Coast League action at Joe Martin Field on Monday, July 12.
Despite falling behind 3-0 to Cowlitz in the fourth inning, Bellingham bounced back with a four-run fifth inning to take the lead en route to their 11th win at home.
Third baseman Ben Ruff led the come-from-behind victory with a two-run single to center field in the fifth inning—it was his second hit of the night. Charlie Markson also added a pair of hits with a single in the third and a double in the fifth.
Starter James Wise improved to 4-0 on the season with after pitching eight innings. Wise only allowed the Black Bears to score in the fourth inning and struck out nine batters on the night. Wise gave way Ruff in the ninth inning as the two-way player picked up his league-leading eighth save which included a pair of strikeouts.
