he Bellingham Bells fell, 5-1, in their series opener with the Portland Pickles Tuesday night at Walker Stadium.
Portland used a four-run third and excellent pitching to propel themselves to victory, evening the season series with the Bells, 2-2.
The Pickles broke things open in the third, playing four runs, highlighted by a Kyle Manzardo two-run single and a Davis Delorefice two-run double, against Bells starter Matt Henckel.
They tacked on one more on a Manzardo single in the fourth to make it 5-0.
The Bells got on the board on a Derek Marshall RBI single in the seventh, but that would be it, as the Pickles ‘pen closed the door.
Game two will take place at 7:05 p.m on Wednesday at Walker Stadium.
