Bells Fall to Corvallis, 14-5

The Bellingham Bells were defeated, 14-5, tonight by the Corvallis Knights in game one of a three-game series at Goss Stadium.
The Knights jumped out to an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning on an Andy Atwood RBI single off Bells’ starter Will Armbruester.
They broke things open after that, plating five runs in the second, highlighted by a Jake Holcroft two-run double off the left field wall. The Knights added five more in the fifth on RBI singles by Matthew Gretler and Trace Tammaro, and a bases-clearing double by Andy Atwood.
Ahead 11-0, Corvallis scored two more in the fifth on a Tammaro two-run single to make it 13-0.
Bellingham then broke onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning with RBI singles from Collin Burns and Troy Viola before Corvallis answered with a Holcroft sacrifice fly in the home half to make it 14-2.
The Bells then proceded to score two runs in the top of the eighth inning on an error and a Cole Hinkelman sacrifice fly, which was his first RBI as a bell.
Trailing 14-4, Bellingham added one run in the ninth on a passed ball before falling 14-5.
The teams will play game two tomorrow at Goss Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
