Bells Drop Final Game in Port Angeles

06/09/2019 3:19 PM

The Bellingham Bells (3-3) fell, 2-1, at the hands of the Port Angeles Lefties (4-2) Sunday afternoon to drop the best of three series, 2-1.

In what was a pitchers’ duel, through and through, Bells third baseman Nic Sokol put his team on the board with a solo homerun to lead off the top of the first inning.

After what would turn out to be the Bells’ only run, Bellingham starter Matt Henckel (1-0) quieted the Lefties to the tune of one hit in two innings of work. He didn’t walk anybody and struck out two.

He was relieved by Jimmy Chatfield who threw two more scoreless frames, walking two Lefties and fanning three.

Brock Wrolstad (1-1) took over for Chatfield in the fifth, and after tossing a clean inning, ran into some trouble in the sixth. He walked Ethan Groff and gave up a single to Damiano Palmagiani, which set up an Evan Hurn two-run double.

Those two runs would turn out to be all Port Angeles needed, as the Bells were blanked for the remainder of the game.

The Bells will take Monday off before coming home to face off against the Cowlitz Black Bears on Tuesday in the first of a three-game series at Joe Martin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
