Bells Finish Series in Walla Walla on Wrong End of Shutout

07/20/2018 9:54 PM

The Bellingham Bells struggled to get the offense going in a 5-0 shutout loss to the Walla Walla Sweets in the final game of the series.

The Bells had plenty of chances but left 10 runners on base in the first time they were on the wrong end of a shutout this year.
The Sweets got to Bells starter Chris Micheles in the third inning after a solo homerun and a triple fueled a two run rally to put the sweets in front 2-0.
Bellingham loaded the bases in the fourth but stranded three runners on and the Sweets kept control.
The Sweets scored another pair of runs in the sixth inning as they chased Micheles from the game.
Walla Walla tacked on their fifth and final run in the seventh to take a 5-0 lead.
Jack Filby came out of the Sweets bullpen and threw two shutout innings to close out the ballgame.
The loss drops the Bells to 24-14 on the year and the win brought the Sweets to 20-16 on the year.
Bellingham will continue the 2018 schedule at home on Saturday as they kick off a six-game homestand against the Bend Elks at 6:35.
