Bells bullpen helps seal sixth straight win

06/19/2018 9:17 PM

The Bellingham Bells used a strong bullpen effort and timely hitting to win their sixth game in a row by defeating Cowlitz 6-4.

The Bells fell behind 1-0 after the second inning after the Black Bears loaded the bases with no one out.
It didn’t take long, however for the Bells to strike back.
Bellingham exploaded for three runs in the third inning after an RBI double from Ernie Yake and a two-run single from Jordan Stoner.
The Black Bears got another run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead back to 3-2 but once again the Bells got out of a jam to stay ahead.
The Bells were able to get two more runs in the fifth inning on a two-out two-run double to put the Bells in front 5-2.
Cowlitz scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to draw within a run at 5-4.
Bellingham used a strong bullpen performance to keep the Black Bears tamed as Trevor DeLaite came on and worked 2.2 innings of perfect baseball while striking out five.
The Bells got a huge insurance run in the top of the eighth to make it 6-4 before they handed the ball off to their closer Taylor Davis in the ninth.
Davis allowed one hit but retired the side to record his fourth save of the season and give the Bells the win.
Ben Leeper got his second win as a Bell while Matt Gannon took the loss.
Bellingham is now 11-5 on the year and stays atop the WCL North.
The Bells play the second game of the series against the Black Bears on Wednesday at 6:35.
