2017 WCL All-Star Update: Chase Illig

Chase Illig made a big splash in the West Coast League last season and he has been working to continue that success for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Illig has started 12 of his 18 game appearances as the team's catcher and designated hitter. He has recorded 7 runs and 9 hits in his 46 at-bats so far this season. This also includes two doubles, eight RBIs, and four homers to his name.
Illig delivered in big moments throughout the 2017 Bellingham Bells season to earn him All-Star honors and ultimately being named the 2017 WCL PLayer of the Year. Chase leads the WCL with a whopping 15 home runs, many coming at vital times of the game. Illig's hot bat also won him the 2017 WCL Home Run Derby crown during last seasons All-Star festivities. His stat line at the end of the season included a batting average of .390 over his 164 at-bats, 12 doubles, and a team-leading 52 RBIs. Illig proved to be a great example of what it means to be a Bell and we are excited to see how the rest of his baseball career will go.
