Bells Blog: Monday In The Minors

Former Bells pitcher Matt Stabelfeld gave up just one hit in two appearances last week for the Princeton Rays. The southpaw pitched two scoreless innings to finish games on Aug. 10 and Aug. 15. He played for the Bellingham Bells in 2007 out of Lewis-Clark State College.

JOHNNY BOWDEN | Played for Bells in 2005
Drafted: 41st Round in 2007 by the Colorado Rockies
Current Team: Tulsa Drillers (AA)

Bowden is currently on the disabled list and has not played since May 4.

 

STEPHEN FIFE | Played for Bells in 2007
Drafted: 3rd Round in 2008 by the Boston Red Sox
Current Team: Salem Red Sox (A)

Fife threw five innings in his Aug. 15 start. He fanned a season-high eight batters and allowed just one earned run.

 

SEAN HALTON | Played for Bells in 2008
Drafted: 13th Round in 2009 by the Milwaukee Brewers
Current Team: Helena Brewers (R)

Halton had just three hits in six games last week. He was 3-for-21 (.143) on the week with one extra base hit and eight strikeouts.

 

MARK HOLLIMAN | Played for Bells in 2005
Drafted: 3rd Round in 2005 by the Chicago Cubs
Current Team: Huntsville Stars (AA)

Holliman allowed just one run in six innings in his Aug. 15 start, but his one run was enough to hand him the loss. Holliman gave up six hits and walked three while striking out just one batter.

 

EDDIE KUNZ | Played for Bells in 2005
Drafted: 1st Round in 2007 by the New York Mets
Current Team: Buffalo Bisons (AAA)

Kunz has struggled down the stretch, allowing six runs on six hits in two relief appearances that totaled four innings of work. Despite the rough numbers, Kunz did not factor into either decision.

 

BRANDON PULLEN | Played for Bells in 2007
Drafted: 37th Round in 2008 by the Seattle Mariners
Current Team: Everett AquaSox (A)

Pullen did not allow an earned run last week as he pitched a total of five innings in two relief appearances. He gave up just one hit in each outing.

 

STEVE SPURGEON | Played for Bells in 2005
Drafted: Undrafted
Current Team: Southern Illinois Miners (IND)

Spurgeon is now pitching with the Southern Illinois Minors of the Frontier League. In his lone start with his new club, Spurgeon was tagged with a loss after pitching 5 2/3 and giving up a pair of runs.

 

MATT STABELFELD | Played for Bells in 2008
Drafted: 41st Round in 2009 by the Tampa Bay Rays
Current Team: Princeton Rays (A)

Stabelfeld appeared in two games and pitched two scoreless innings in which he allowed just one hit last week.

 

BRANDON TULLIS | Played for Bells in 2009
Drafted: 8th Round by the Texas Rangers
Current Team: Spokane Indians (A)

Tullis pitched six scoreless innings on Aug. 13 and fanned four while walking three, but failed to get any run support and left the game without earning a decision.

 

Former Pacific International League-era Bells

 

ANTHONY CLAGGETT
Drafted: 11th Round in 2005 by the Detroit Tigers
Current Team: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (AAA)

Claggett was 1-0 last week in two appearances. He pitched seven combined innings and allowed just one run on four hits.

 

KEVIN RICHARDSON | Played for Bells in 2000
Drafted:
Undrafted
Current Team: Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA)

Richardson had two hits last week in eight at-bats. He saw action in three games.

 

EMERSON FROSTAD
Drafted: 13th Round in 2003 by the Texas Rangers
Current Team: Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA)

In three games with the RedHawks, Frostad had one hit and two runs in eight at-bats.

 

TY TAUBENHEIM
Drafted: 19th Round in 2003 by the Milwaukee Brewers
Current Team: Indianapolis Indians (AAA)

Taubenheim pitched five innings on Aug. 16 and allowed just one run on six hits while striking out a pair of batters. He did not factor into the decision.

 

MARC RZEPCZYNSKI | Played for Bells in 2004

Drafted: Fifth Round in 2007 by the Toronto Blue Jays
Current Team: Toronto Blue Jays (MLB)
Rzepczynski made two starts for the Blue Jays last week. In 9 1/3 combined innings of work, he gave up five earned runs on 13 hits and walked four. He did not factor into either decision.

The Bellingham Bells are a summer collegiate, wood bat baseball team and a member of the West Coast League.  During the months of June, July & August, the Bells compete in a 57-game season, playing home games at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham and traveling to compete with other WCL teams in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.
