Bell starter Andrew Olson shines, as Bellingham takes game three of the series against the Wenatchee Applesox, 3-2.
After a scoreless first three innings, Derek Akinson lead off the top of the fourth reaching on a infield hit and advancing to second on an error from shortstop Cabe Reiten. Jarel Lewis would lay down a sacrifice bunt to put Atkinson at third. Grant Fink drove the run home with a single back up the middle making it 1-0.
Bellingham increased the lead to 2-0 the next inning when Johnny Farrington had a one out single. With two outs Andrew Ely dragged a bunt single and Derek Atkinson brought in the run with his second hit of the game.
The third run was scored on a passed ball after Fink hit his first triple of the season. The Bells came into the game having hit five triples all year, they had three on the night.
Wenatchee offense didn’t lay dormant all game, with Olson trying to complete the shut out in the ninth, Ryan Drobny came up with a man on and blasted his 5th homerun of the season taking the score to 3-2. Mark Lambson and Jacob Coats would be summoned from the bullpen to get the final two outs and finish off the victory.
Olson got his 5th win of the year, going 8.1 innings allowing eight hits and striking out five.
The win puts the Bells 2.5 games behind the Applesox with five games to play. The Bells also maintained their 3.5 game lead in the wildcard spot over the Kelowna Falcons.
Bellingham goes for the series win in Wenatchee tonight. The series finale will begin at 7:05pm.
