Bellingham, WA – The Bellingham Bells announced that Derrel Ebert has been named the team’s new vice president/general manager and part-owner.
Ebert brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Bells. He has spent seven years working for Brett Sports, the owners of the Bells. Most recently Ebert served as the general manager of the California League’s High Desert Mavericks, the Class-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Ebert has also previously served as general manager of the Northwest League Tri-City Dust Devils, a Colorado Rockies affiliate.
“I am thrilled to have Derrel taking over the helm of the Bells,” said Bells Managing Partner, Bobby Brett. “Derrel is a hard-worker, a dynamic thinker and very community-minded. The Bells are in great hands.”
Ebert, a graduate of California State University in San Bernardino, began his baseball career as an intern with the High Desert Mavericks after a career in banking. Ebert, 29, was recently married. Derrel and his wife, Nicole, are in the process of moving to Bellingham.
“My wife and I are excited to begin a new chapter of our lives in the great city of Bellingham,” Ebert said. “I am excited about the rich baseball tradition in Bellingham and about providing great fun and affordable entertainment to Bells fans. With an established ownership group, support from the City of Bellingham, and continued community support, we have the perfect formula for success in the years to come.”
Ebert takes over from Dave Lewis who led the Bells during the first year of Brett Sports ownership of the Bells. Lewis has accepted a position with the Tacoma Department of Parks and Recreation.
“We are grateful to Dave for all his hard work during our first year,” said Brett. “The Bells had a successful 2008, which sets us up for even bigger and better things to come. We have Dave to thank for the strong foundation that has been built.”
The Bells first year of ownership with the Bretts was highlighted by an increase in attendance and a renewed commitment to local players and coaches.
The Bellingham Bells are a College Summer League team that competes in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League (WCCBL). The Bells play at Joe Martin Field.
The Bells 2009 campaign kicks off in June. Ticket packages for the 2009 season are on sale now.
