Bells Sign Two Junior College Standouts
The Bells have signed two junior college players who are verbally committed to play at the University of Oregon in 2013. The addition of shortstop Des Santos and pitcher Jake McCoy continue to round out the Bells roster.
Des Santos is a 5 foot 8 inch sophomore shortstop at Pierce College. Originally from Des Moines, WA, Santos attended Mt. Rainier high school. During his freshman year at Pierce, Santos was named 1st team West Division. This spring, he has batted leadoff for the Raiders and leads the team in runs, walks, and is second in stolen bases. Pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Jim Clem says, “Des has the ability to play shortstop, second base, and third base, which allows us a lot of flexibilty when making out a line-up. We look for Desmond to be a spark plug for our team!”
Right-handed pitcher, Jake McCoy, is a freshman at College of the Desert and is redshirting this season. McCoy is originally from Longview, WA where he attended Mark Morris High School. Before being redshirted, the 6-foot-3-inch righty was slotted in as the College of the Desert ace thanks to his 90-92 mile per hour fastball. Clem said, "Jake is a big, hard throwing, right handed pitcher that will add some much needed depth to our pitching staff. His potential has not yet been defined and we look forward to seeing just how good he can become.”
