The Toros’ chances of winning the game of Amtrak Cascades Baseball BINGO in the stands were better than earning a win on the field as Chase Brewer, Jimmy Reed, and Danny Hennigs combined for the four-hit shutout with Reed picking up the win after two innings on the mound. Brewer pitched four scoreless innings in the abbreviated start and Hennigs picked up the save after surrendering just one hit of the final three frames.
The Bells climbed out to a four run lead after the fourth inning before putting the game away with six runs in the fifth inning. Bellingham had just three hits in the fifth, but benefitted from a pair of walks and a pair of hit batters.
Bellingham added two more runs in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Ben Grubb and a run-scoring single by Mike Chiarelli. Grubb finished the night with a pair of hits, two runs scored and 3 RBI. Chiarelli, along with Chris Sturdivant, finished the game with three hits.
The Bells finished non-league play with a .328 team batting average and were led by Ben Grubb (.500) and Chris Sturdivant (.462) at the plate while the pitching staff combined for a 0.78 ERA.
Bellingham wraps up the 2010 regular season with a pair of games against the Kitsap BlueJackets on Friday (Aug. 6) and Saturday (Aug. 7). Game time for Bellingham’s remaining three home games is set for 6:35 p.m. with fireworks scheduled to follow Saturday’s season finale.
