Bells Set Single-Season Win Record

07/31/2010 9:41 PM The Bellingham Bells sets a single-season franchise record for wins since joining the West Coast League in 2005 with Saturday’s 5-4 victory over the Walla Walla Sweets at Borleske Stadium. The win was Bellingham’s third consecutive victory and moved the Bells above the .500 mark for the first time since July 24.

Bellingham never trailed in the game as the Bells put up single runs in each of the first three innings before Walla Walla got on the board with a pair of runs in the third. Charlie Markson scored Bellingham’s first run with one out in the first inning thanks to an error by the Sweets. The Bells again benefited from one of Walla Walla’s four errors in the second inning as Frank Desico drove in Travis Anderson who had reached on an error earlier in the inning; Anderson drove in Cody Regis one inning later to make it 3-0.

The Sweets responded with a pair of runs in the third inning and pulled even with a run in the fourth before Bellingham regained its two-run lead with a run in the sixth inning and another in the seventh.

James Wise (5-2) earned the win for Bellingham after throwing seven innings in which he allowed four runs on seven hits. Wise also walked seven and struck out five in the win. Bellingham’s Jimmy Reed tossed the final two innings in relief to pick up the save without allowing a hit.

Desico and Chris Sturdivant led the Bells offensively with two hits each and Sturdivant scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Junnior Dishmey-Perez.

Bellingham wraps up the road portion of its 2010 season on Sunday, Aug. 1, with the final game of a three-game series against the Walla Walla Sweets from Borleske Stadium. First pitch for Sunday’s game is slated for 4:00 p.m. The Bells return home to Joe Martin Field Wednesday, Aug. 4 to take on the Portland before opening a two-game set against the Kitsap BlueJackets on Friday, Aug. 6 to wrap up the 2010 regular season. Game time for Bellingham’s remaining three home games is set for 6:35 p.m. with fireworks set to follow Saturday’s season finale.
