The Falcons pulled out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning for the second straight game. But after giving up an unearned run on two hits and a Bells error in the first, Poggemeyer (1-2, 2.96 ERA) settled in for the long haul and allowed just four hits throughout the remaining eight innings to pitch Bellingham’s third consecutive complete game.
Bellingham evened the score in the fourth inning by taking advantage of a pair of walked batters by Kelowna starter Nathan Slater. Brady Locker led off the inning with a single before stealing second. He reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Wynton Bernard and came home for Bellingham’s first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Travis Anderson.
Frank Desico gave the Bells the lead with another Bellingham run in the fifth inning. Desico reached base on an error and scored three batters later on a passed ball. Jeff Calhoon scored the Bells’ third and final run in the seventh to give Bellingham the 3-1 win.
The Bells were in motion most of the night with runners on base as Bellingham stole seven bases off of Kelowna catcher Scott Kalush. The win moved the Bells to 8-8 on the season.
Bellingham completes its 10-game road trip Wednesday, June 23, at 7:05 p.m. in Kelowna, B.C. Wednesday’s game can be heard live on AM 930 KBAI and online at www.BellinghamBells.com.
