The Bellingham Bells put on a hit parade tonight in Kelowna as they slashed 18 hits to push eight runs across and lock down their first win of the season as they beat the Falcons 8-2.
The Bells got things started early as Jordan Stoner, Guthrie Morrison and Matt James all singled to bring a run home and stake the Bells to a 1-0 lead. That trio for the Bells was terrific tonight as they collected 12 hits in 15 at bats and drove home four runs.
Kelowna came back and scored a run in the third inning to tie the game, but the Bells responded in the top of the fourth inning with four runs of their own to make it 5-1 and that is all Bells' starter Johnny Wiltfang (1-0) needed.
Wiltfang gave the Bells bullpen a much needed boost as he went seven strong innings allowing just two earned runs on six hits. He walked two batters.
Theron Kay came into the game and worked the final two innings for the Bells as he kept the Falcons off the board in the eighth and ninth innings.
Trevor Brigden (0-1) took the loss for Kelowna after lasting just 3.2 innings and allowing five runs on 11 hits.
The Bells improve to 1-1 while the Falcons fall to 1-1 on the season.
The Bells and the Falcons will be back in action on Sunday for the rubber match of the series. Wesley Moore takes the hill for the Bells and first pitch will be at 6:05.
